This choice was announced by Christian Estrosi, Minister of Industry, Mayor of Nice and President of the Metropolitan Nice Friday, on the 9th of October 2009.

Indeed, the choice is final and irreversible for line 2, it will run from the airport to the train station of Riquier, through the harbour. Note that from the Boulevard François Grosso, the line will continue underground from place Arson beneath Jean Médécin.
The cost of these works are estimated at 450 million euros, 135 million more than the Promenade des Anglais version, but will be 3.3 kilometers longer in this new project.

This eastbound service will be 8.6 kilometers, including 3.6 km underground.

Timetable

- 2011: work begins to extend the tramway to Pasteur.
- 2013: commissioning of line 1 extended. Kickoff of digging tunnel to line 2. Starting line 3, in the Var plain, from St. Augustine.
- 2014: Launch of work on Avenue de la Californie
- 2015: Line 3 will reach the next great stage.
- 2016: Commissioning of Line 2.

And the Prom 'in all this?

New generation busses will roll in a dedicated corridor. This will also result that the south sidewalk (Ocean side) will be more vegetated and northern sidewalk will be expanded for more space for pedestrians.

Additional ideas that are being opted and are taken into very serious consideration are:

- Reduction of traffic by reducing 1 lane in each direction and enforcement of speed limits.
- Speed limit 30 km / hour on the most popular parts.
- Enforce the ban on heavy trucks to drive on the Promenade at any time of day.
- Create all along the Promenade a dedicated bike lane/
- Maintaining and developing quality animation on the Promenade of the English throughout the year.
